Location
Davao del Norte is strategically located at the southern part of Mindanao and at the heart of Region XI. It is bounded by Agusan del Sur on the north, Bukidnon on the west, Davao City on the southwest, Davao Gulf on the south and the Province of Compostela Valley on the east.
Climate and Rainfall
The province has Type IV climate characterized by unpronounced dry and wet seasons. Rainfall is more or less evenly distributed throughout the year with no pronounced rainy season and dry season. The province is located at the south of the typhoon belt hence; the occurrence of typhoons is minimal. Also the province is naturally protected by mountain ranges that act as barriers from the onslaught of typhoons.

Compared to other provinces in Region XI and in the Mindanao area, Davao del Norte has demonstrated a low degree of vulnerability to various El Niño episodes.

The fairly pronounced rainy months in the province are from November through February. The total rainfall, which was recorded at 3,031.6 mm in 2000, is the highest In the past twenty years.
Topography and Drainage
Rugged, mountainous and moderately to steeply sloping areas on the western part and wide alluvial plains on the central lowland area generally characterize the topography of the province. Comprising the major portion of the alluvial plain is a flat tract of land. However, some places are gently undulating and exhibit a rolling topography.

Some 15 rivers and 12 creeks traverse the province. The bigger rivers, namely: Lasang, Tuganay, Libuganon and Saug rivers drain the broad plain in the west and north of the Davao Gulf. Since the province of Davao del Norte faces Davao Gulf in the southern side, all major rivers drain southwards into Davao Gulf.

The average range of temperature is 27.46 to 28.18 degrees Celsius.

The economy of the province is based on agriculture. About three-fourths of the total land area is devoted to farming.

Tourism
The Island Garden City of Samal boasts of its famous white and pristine beaches, excellent scuba diving and snorkeling sites, marine and fish sanctuaries and rare coral gardens that contain 32 coral species in just one colony. It also has waterfalls and springs. A breathtaking view of rugged mountains, vast expanse of Davao Gulf and Davao City across the sea can be done from mountain view decks located. The island is not only a haven for adventure-seekers and nature lovers, but it is also an ideal residential place for those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban living.

In the absence of beaches for the exciting water sports, the mainland is also endowed with as much tourism resources that are worthy of human fascination.

It is rich in mountain resorts, waterfalls, unique flora and fauna, springs, lakes,
rivers, caves, vast plantations, cut flower gardens, rain forests and tribal communities.

Authentic indigenous peoples are also part of the Province's natural attraction. They boosts of the distinct culture and heritage of Davao del Norte. The Municipality of Talaingod had been identified as a cultural settlement destination.
